Carolyn Abeita

Carolyn Abeita is a partner with the law firm of VanAmberg, Rogers, Yepa, Abeita & Gomez, specializing in Indian law matters and tribal representation including tribal gasoline tax, gaming and tribal and state relation issues. She provides legal counsel to tribal governments and tribal organizations on a variety of governmental, corporate and public welfare matters. She is a New Mexico Board Certified Specialist in Federal Indian Law.

Ms. Abeita was formerly an associate attorney with the Chestnut Law Offices, an Associate Court of Appeals Judge with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona, and a Tribal Government Specialist with the U.S. Department of Interior, Southern Pueblos Agency. She served on the Board of Equal Access to Justice in 2005. Ms. Abeita has served on several other boards including the UNM Board of Regents (2007 to 2013) and the UNM Health Sciences Center Board of Directors. Ms. Abeita is an Isleta Pueblo tribal member and a UNM alumna.
