Peter and Madeleine Dorato Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was endowed by family and friends in memory and honor of Madeleine and Peter Dorato.

Professor Peter Dorato joined UNM’s Electrical and Computer Science Department as its chair, a position he held through 1984.

Peter’s commitment to the learning of his students never waned, and even after his retirement, he was involved in a wide array of related passions from teaching and counseling undergraduates to participating in faculty meetings and contributing to the department’s many events and activities.

Madeleine was born in France and moved to the United States in 1955. She met Peter in New York in 1956. They married three months later and were married for over 54 years.

Madeleine was a highly active participant in the UNM community and her neighborhood. She loved to sing, and was a member of the University Chorus for over 30 years and was in the chorus at the Campus Aquinas Newman Center, where she had been an active parishioner since 1976.

This scholarship in their honor will benefit students enrolled in Electrical Engineering.
