Refugee Well-being Project

The Refugee Well-being Project (RWP) brings together newly arrived refugees from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and the Great Lakes Region of Africa (Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda) and UNM college students to work together to support refugees’ adjustment, mental health, and well-being. The focus of the RWP is on mutual learning between Americans and refugees and advocacy to mobilize resources for refugees, with the goal of making our community more welcoming and receptive to refugees. The RWP has been operating at UNM since 2006, and has involved hundreds and hundreds of refugees and students. Your gift helps support this project in a variety of ways, including providing interpreters so that UNM students and refugee families can communicate and learn from one another.
