Vera John-Steiner Gift of Confidence: a scholarship for immigrant students
UNM College of Education Professor Emeritus, Vera John-Steiner, championed UNM’s interdisciplinary PhD in Educational Linguistics. She was internationally renowned for her work on collaboration and creativity, as well as interpreting the works of Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky. A Hungarian holocaust survivor and champion of social justice, Professor John-Steiner passed away on December 6, 2017 at the age of 87 at her home in Santa Fe, surrounded by friends and family. This memorial scholarship is being established by her family, friends, former colleagues and students to provide scholarships for undergraduate students in the field of education who are immigrants or refugees, as she once was.
