Eleonora Harvey Trotter Award for American Indian Scholars in Biology
This annual award assists undergraduate students majoring in Biology or graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in Biology with funds to cover any education-related expenses, including travel. Students who receive this award are in good academic standing, with demonstrated financial need, and are enrolled members of federally recognized Native American Tribes. This award was established in honor of Eleonora “Ellie” Harvey Trotter who earned her bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Washington and her PhD in Biology from UNM.
Ellie’s research was varied and innovative as was her teaching. She was most proud of her students’ successes and continued to follow her students after graduation. Ellie was honored in 2011 for her contributions to the UNM Biology Department, especially to the scientific education of minority students, and most especially Native American students. This award honors her and her work.
